GLP-1 medications, such as Ozempic or Trulicity, can be great ways to manage diabetes or lose weight. But these medications, like many others, can have detrimental side effects such as nausea, constipation and low blood sugar. And any weight loss journey, whether you’re taking medications or not to help, requires a lifestyle and diet change to have the long-term effect you’re looking for.
To combat these side effects and improve the effectiveness of the medications, health professionals recommend a diet of fiber, natural fats and vegetables, avoiding foods high in sugar, carbohydrates and unhealthy fats.
But let’s face it—this is easier said than done. However, cutting back on sugar for your GLP-1 diet doesn’t mean completely ignoring your sweet tooth. It means finding healthier sugar options to take in moderation—such as raw honey.
Wait, doesn’t honey have sugar?
Honey consists of bee pollen, beeswax and bee propolis—which all contribute to its natural sugar content of glucose and fructose. But these are natural sugars, which are better for your diet than added sugars, such as the contents found in candy, sugary drinks and desserts. The American Heart Association recommends limiting added sugars in your diet as they can harm your heart health and cause weight gain—the exact results you don’t want if you’re taking a GLP-1 medication.
Honey, however, has natural sugars that are better for you than added sugars. Research also shows that the oligofructose (sugar) content in honey can actually help reduce blood sugar levels and the harmful effects of diabetes. This makes honey the perfect addition to your healthy GLP-1 diet! Honey is also sweeter than table sugar, meaning you do not need as much honey to satisfy your sweet tooth.
What sets Drizzle Honey apart?
Most honey products on the market have been pasteurized and filtered, meaning they have been processed and heated to eliminate yeast cells contained in the honey. While pasteurization does give honey a smoother texture and larger shelf life, it destroys much of the pollen and beeswax that contain many healthy nutrients.
However, Drizzle Honey uses completely unpasteurized raw honey that keeps the pollen and beeswax intact and the honey the way it was meant to be consumed. Not only will Drizzle help your GLP-1 diet, but it will also give you all the natural health benefits and nutrients, such as pollen’s proteins, free amino acids, vitamins and folic acid, that have been removed from pasteurized honey.
Drizzle Honey helps you lose weight, manage diabetes, reduce the side effects of GLP-1 medications and get your proper nutrients. It’s a win-win-win-win.
Two Sweet Ways to Drizzle Some Honey on Your GLP-1 Diet
There are endless possibilities for honey. You can put it on pancakes, on toast, in tea, on fruits, on nuts, you name it. But if you’ve got a sweet tooth and are looking for healthy sugar replacements for your GLP-1 diet, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are a couple easy sweet recipes that pair perfectly with a drizzle of Drizzle Honey.
Chocolate Honey Covered Strawberries
Something sweet for your sweetie! The nice thing about chocolate covered strawberries is that it is an all-time classic, easy and mess free, and endlessly customizable to your preferences! Enjoy this recipe with your favourite chocolate and toppings, featuring Drizzle Cacao Luxe Raw Honey that added the perfect amount of natural sweetness and extra creamy-ness to these strawberries.
What You’ll Need:
-
6 oz Semi-Sweet or Dark Chocolate Chips
-
1 lb Strawberries
-
1 Tbsp Water or preferred Milk (we used Oat Milk)
-
Optional: toppings such as coconut shavings, more honey for topping, sprinkles, candy, etc.
-
Wash and chop strawberries and put in a bowl for later.
-
If you have a 'Warmer' element on your stove, place the Drizzle Honey on there to begin heating up the honey slightly (this allows the honey to be a thinner consistency and easier to mix in for later!) Alternatively fill a bowl with hot water and place the honey in it for a few minutes.
-
Combine the chocolate and the splash of water/milk (whatever you're choosing to use) in a medium saucepan. Keep on low for 2-3 minutes, mixing consistently.
-
Once the chocolate has melted, add the Cacao Honey. I used approximately 60% chocolate to 40% honey ratio. Mix well.
-
Once the chocolate and honey is combined, remove from heat and begin dipping your strawberries in that chocolatey goodness!
-
Add the strawberries to a plate with wax paper. Once finished, leave them in the freezer for 10-20 minutes.
-
Remove from the freezer and enjoy! Any leftover strawberries will be best eaten the next morning for breakfast.
Honey Lavender Shortbread Cookies
These cookies are sophisticated and delicious. They're rich and buttery, and so flavorful and made with just a few simple ingredients.

-
1 ½ cup cake flour

½ cup butter

3 tablespoons White Raw Honey
-
¼ cup powdered sugar
-
1 teaspoon dried lavender

pinch of salt
-
Preheat oven to 400 °F
-
Cream together butter, sugar and White Raw Honey together in a mixer. Sift flour, lavender and salt together in a separate bowl. Slowly add the flour mixture to the butter mixture. Mix until just combined - careful not to over-mix.
-
Using parchment paper or plastic wrap, shape the dough into a log and wrap. Refrigerate or freeze until solid.
-
Slice cookies into ¼ inch thick pieces. Bake on convection for about 3-5 minutes or until the bottoms start to brown slightly. The cookies will be delicate when they are hot – let them cool before removing them from the pan.
-
Top cookies with a drizzle of White Raw Honey or Turmeric Gold Raw Honey (turmeric is a surprising but delicious addition to shortbread cookies).
